I have been reading a lot of articles and posts on social media, that Work from Home is more tiresome than going to office. In office you can chat with colleagues, take small breaks, have long conversations during lunch hour. But now, we write brb (be right back) if we need to take body breaks in between back to back meetings. Why this pressure? I do not understand - is it to do with us or the organisation? I guess it is to do with us. Let me explain why I think so.
Earlier before lock down, work
from home culture was not very well adopted in most of the organizations.
Especially with Baby Boomers and Gen X managers it has been difficult to trust
subordinates working from home. If one had to work from home, it was under
constant threat of being monitored whether online or not, achieving set
deliverables or not. It may not be with the managers but in own mind we created
that association or what we call nowadays tags. Tagging “Work from Home” to negative
emotions like Fear, anxiety, constant check. Now that we are in this Corona
era, we are having to work from home and our mind is now re- associating all
those negative tags, creating barriers for us to feel free. Our own conscience
and self-created guilt are stopping us to fully enjoy this opportunity to work
from home, causing added fatigue to normal work.
We cannot control our macro
environment, people around us, but what we can do is be firm and assertive to
our priorities. Follow all tips I posted in my last post to train your mind to
associate positive tags to work from home. Tagging “Work from Home” to positive
emotions like being with family, comfort space, flexible, happy. If you are
happy, your mind is happy and the work shall be fun and productive, and fatigue
would disappear. I constantly say “It’s all in your mind”
Food or thought:
I love a beautiful quote by
Caroline Myss, think about it
“The soul always knows what to do
to heal itself...the challenge is to silence the mind!!!”
